In a stunning betrayal of his principles, the formerly pro-life Nicholls voted in favour of a pro-abortion bill by Kathleen Wynne's Liberal government. The unconstitutional Bill 163, which became law, bans pro-life witness and free speech on taxpayer-owned, public sidewalks within a radius of up to 150 metres of every abortuary in Ontario.

The draconian bill will put peaceful, pro-life sidewalk counsellors and demonstrators in jail for 6 months along with the possibility of a $5000 fine for the first "offense".

This law will directly result in the deaths of many more preborn children who could have been saved by pro-life sidewalk counsellors, as so many thousands of other children have been spared over the years.

In August 2021, MPP Nicholls was ejected from the PC Party for refusing to bow to a government ultimatum to take the experimental, abortion-tainted Covid-19 vaccine. As a result, he was forced to sit as an Independent MPP. Then, in October of the same year, Nicholls was removed from his position as Deputy Speaker for maintaining his principled refusal to get the COVID-19 jab.

The embattled Nicholls initially decided not to run for re-election in the 2022 Ontario provincial race. Then, in December 2021, he joined Derek Sloan's Ontario Party, becoming its first sitting MPP, and in February 2022 he confirmed that he would run for re-election as the Ontario Party incumbent in the same riding.
