Official NDP policy is pro-abortion. Genter also ran for the NDP in 2014's provincial election. On June 4, 2014, in response to a Tweet asking for her views on women's reproductive choice (i.e. abortion), Karen Gventer tweeted the following pro-abortion comment: "Women should be able to be in control of their own bodies and what happens to them". She also displayed her total ignorance of the law by then claiming that a "right" to abortion is protected by the Supreme Court, when in fact the Supreme Court never asserted that a right to abortion exists. In fact, the Supreme Court said the exact opposite, urging the federal government to craft a new law to restrict abortion. The old 1988 law was struck down for purely geographic considerations because women in rural areas would have a more difficult time finding two doctors to rubber-stamp her abortion referral than would a woman living in a big city.
